20 Hollywood Stars Who Got Tattoos To Honor Their Most Iconic Roles

Celebrities really are different animals, aren’t they? While the rest of us might be happy with a great Insta pic or witty tweet to commemorate the things we’ve done, famous types take things to a whole new level. When they want to celebrate a job well done, a surprising number decide to permanently mark their skin to show just how committed they were to the role. Mind you, not every tattoo is as successful as the performance that preceded it, with issues including bad spelling and inexplicable locations. Read on to discover the stars who’ll never forget some of the things they’ve done… whether they want to or not.

20. Grammatically Correct

A fan of tattoos for a while, Selena Gomez added to her collection in 2017 with a very special memento. The former Disney star was also the producer of hit Netflix show 13 Reasons Why, a series that looked at the darker side of teen life. Having gone through some hellish times herself, the show, based on the book of the same name, was a passion project for Gomez – but one she didn’t want to risk appearing in herself. As the star told People magazine, “I know the cult following [the book] has, which is the reason why I didn’t want to be in it.”

Mental Health Awareness

To commemorate the show and the mental health awareness Gomez hopes it can raise, the star had a very dainty tattoo indeed. On her left wrist now lives a semicolon. Why the grammatically correct ink? Well, it symbolizes mental health awareness and support – something that both the star and the show are all about. And two of 13 Reasons Why’s cast followed suit – Tommy Dorfman and Alisha Boe both have the same tattoo.

19. Supernatural Secrets

Having spent 15 years on our screens fighting demons and starting the apocalypse in Supernatural, those Winchester boys made it official in 2019. Father and brothers trio John, Dean and Sam, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively, were always a tight family unit. Even after [spoiler alert] John died in Season Two, he was never far from the boys’ side. So, when their TV dad got married, they all did something to commemorate the occasion, as well as what brought them together.

Joined For Life

Morgan married long-time partner Hilarie Burton in 2019. And while the ceremony was ostensibly for the couple, as the groom put it, “Me and Hilarien Burton weren’t the only ones joined for life.” Yup, the Winchester tattoos meant a lot. Morgan later took to Instagram to announce the inking, saying, “Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and myself will forever have a bond that is both special, and permanent. Love you both dearly.” And those tats? Well, the details were and remain a secret. That’s because, according to Padalecki, “The family who slays together, stays together.” Amen!
